About us

The Great Oak Bookshop, independently owned and established since 1992, is situated in the centre of the lively Mid Wales market town of Llanidloes, next to the historic black and white market hall.

Under new management since February 2007, we stock a range of new, second-hand and out-of-print books as well as calendars, greeting cards etc. We specialise in local books and maps, books on green and ethical issues, children’s books and craft books. Many of our greeting cards, calendars and wrapping paper are Fair Trade, and we have also sourced a range of eco-friendly greeting cards – using alcohol-free printing techniques; vegetable based inks; compostable packaging; recycled envelopes; are Forest Stewardship Council certified and printed in the UK.

As a business we are developing a green policy and have so far changed our energy supplier to Good Energy, use eco-paints, low-energy light bulbs and recycled office stationary and paper bags to reduce our carbon foot print.

Our friendly team of staff is there to help you with any queries and customers are welcome to browse at their leisure and on the first Saturday of the month you can pop in for a free cup of Fair Trade coffee while you browse.
